Health Science UG Courses

Field Course Duration Entry route
Medicine MBBS 5.5 years (4.5 + 1 internship) NEET UG
Dentistry BDS 5 years (4 + 1 internship) NEET UG
AYUSH BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS (Siddha), BNYS About 5.5 years NEET UG
Veterinary BVSc & AH 5 years NEET UG; TANUVAS by Class 12 marks
Nursing B.Sc Nursing (Hons.) 4 years NEET, AIIMS / PGIMER tests, state merit
Pharmacy B.Pharm, Pharm.D 4 years; Pharm.D 6 years State CETs / merit
Allied health BPT, BOT, MLT, Optometry, Radiography, OT Technology 3–4.5 years Institute tests / state merit

NEET-based courses include MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS (Siddha), BVSc & AH and B.Sc Nursing in select central institutions; AIIMS / PGIMER / JIPMER offer nursing and paramedical programmes; B.Pharm, Pharm.D, BPT and BOT use state routes. BNYS (Naturopathy and Yoga) is also an AYUSH degree admitted through NEET. Course lengths include internship and are set by the regulators (NMC, DCI, NCISM, INC, PCI); typical lengths are general knowledge, so confirm in the current prospectus.

Three Doors into Health Sciences

Door Courses How it works
NEET UG MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, BVSc & AH, nursing in many institutions Counselling by MCC (15% All India Quota + AIIMS, JIPMER, central, deemed) and by each state (85%)
Institute tests AIIMS and PGIMER nursing & paramedical Own computer-based entrance tests with nominal fees at central institutes
State merit Nursing, B.Pharm, allied health in Tamil Nadu Rank by Class 12 marks through the state selection committee (2026 rank list)
Best plan
Prepare for NEET UG, and apply to the nursing / allied routes as backups. NEET is the door for doctors, dentists, AYUSH and veterinary courses; AIIMS and PGIMER run their own tests for nursing and paramedical courses; Tamil Nadu ranks paramedical, B.Sc Nursing and B.Pharm applicants on Class 12 marks rather than NEET scores.
